Signs of an ear infection include shaking off the head and scratching in, near or under the ear. Some animals may try rubbing the ear against other objects to relieve pain and discomfort. Ear infections often result in a darker red ear, dirt in the ear or a generally inflamed appearance.

Treatment of ear infections

In mild cases, a product with anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial ingredients is often used. In more severe cases, ear cleaning under sedation or anesthesia may be required and evaluation for otitis media be indicated. You can treat ear mites with specific drops.

Ear cleaning is very important in the treatment of ear infections. You can use home made or prescribed remedies for this.

In some recipes, povidone-iodine (betadine) is also added. Some natural ear cleaners can slightly lower the pH levels in the dog’s ears, making the ear less susceptible to recurrent infections. Many commercial ear cleaners are also available in shops and online.

Treatment protocol

Please read the PowerCure Pro user manual carefully before performing any treatment.
Always wear protective eyewear when using your PowerCure Pro. Do not expose others in your environment to the laser beams when treating with PowerCure Pro. Therefore, do not use the massage lens if there is a risk that someone else may be exposed to the laser beams.

Select mode:

  • Continuous – Immediate pain relief
  • Pulsating – Long-term healing & reducing inflammation

Select energy level:

  • 1 superficial – 3 deep treatment

For most dogs with ear infections, you can follow the following protocol. In small cats and dogs, placing the PowerCure Pro next to the ear canal should be sufficient to cover the entire area.

  1. 30 seconds below the vertical ear canal
  2. 30 seconds along the side of the ear canal
  3. Go over each point 3 times and work up to holding the laser steady over each point for 60 seconds.

For optimal results, repeat the treatment at least twice a day. You should see significant improvement after a few days of treatment.
